Walking around in Kansas City in my favourite spot, The Country Club Plaza, my friends and I had a quick lunch stop at P.F. Chang’s China Bistro. I had never been to P.F. Chang’s before. I know, I know this popular Chinese chain restaurant has dozens of locations around the world, but I just hadn’t been! So here’s my esperimence.

Like most Chinese menus, P.F. Chang’s offers a long list of appetizers, soups, salads and noodles, and then delves into the proteins, many of which can be prepared in the same manner, as in you can have orange peel shrimp or orange peel beef, sweet and sour chicken or sweet and sour pork, etc.

All Gluten Free items are served on a special plate with the P.F. Chang’s logo. These menu items are either gluten free as prepared, or modified to be gluten free. Serving them on special plates lets everybody know these are gluten free dishes, not to be confused with gluten filled dishes. They really care about gluten free I must say.

I order the orange peel chicken with fried rice on the side. The waiter quickly deliver the chicken and my friends dishes asking if we wanted something else — merci! I lift one of the glossy, deep-fried chicken morsels into my mouth, bite down and am overwhelmed by the taste of sweetness, too much for my personal taste. I couldn’t taste the orange fbecause of that. The rice was a bit overcooked but okay. I tried my girfriend’s noodles and they were really good! Maybe I should have got them from the beginning!  Not even finished and we were full , portions are big! 😀

To sum up, P.F. Chang’s is a reliable outfit. You will get well prepared, big portions and attentive, cordial service. The creative menu offers many options, including vegetarian dishes and the de rigueur gluten-free stuff.

I’m giving P.F. Chang’s China Bistro 3.5 hearts out of 5!
