From its world famous boardwalk and cool beach to the shopper’s paradise of Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice offers a unique and vibrant mix of activities and attractions. Originally founded in 1905 as a beachfront resort, Venice Beach has since blossomed into a hip, cultural mecca just a short drive from downtown LA. Its system of canals and imported gondolas and gondoliers from Venice, Italy evoke the classy yet laid-back vibe of the town.
Venice is the ultimate place to chill with the “in-crowd,” whether you’re looking for some fun in the sun, shopping , sightseeing, boutiques, coffee bars, or a sophisticated evening of art and music, find out more about one of L.A.’s top neighborhoods.
Although most people would associate Venice with art more than anything else, skateboarding still holds it’s own place in Venice’s identity. Known as the birthplace of modern skateboarding, Venice was the stomping ground for skating legends Tony Alva and Jay Adams. There are different shops and Venice Skateboarding Stuff is among the best ones. You cand find it right on the boardwalk, and have been here since 1998! In case you want to try your skateboard head to the Venice Skatepark, located right on the Venice Boardwalk (and the beach). It’s packed with skaters every afternoon and especially busy on the weekends. I really enjoyed the park. Because of the crowds, my girlfriends and I went early in the morning to check it out for the first time. To our surprise, there were already few people and it was just 8 am. I personally think it is definitely a unique experience!
Surfing! Yes, that’s one of the other cool things you can do and see in Venice Beach and all over California. Venice is a good spot to surf. Easy access and near by parking make this beach a great spot for both short and long boarders alike!
The bicycle path is like a road…always look both ways before crossing! So watch out before taking a picture.
In the end, Venice Beach is an old hippie neighborhood filled with colors, artists and music. I must say that I wasn’t that impressed by it, especially when I’ve seen the beautiful beaches of Malibu which I personally find much more attractive.
